DEI- Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Eastchester Schools is committed to maintaining a welcoming and respectful learing environment that enables all learners to thrive. The formation of a committee to begin a conversation about DEI was one of our district goals for the year (goal #4.) The reason we are engaging in this work is simply because as a school district, we are preparing our students to enter a very interconnected world and economy in which valuing the ideals of DEI will be important for their future success. A great many companies also are engaged in this work because they realize that it makes them stronger and more competitive.

New York State has provided local school districts with the Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education Framework as a resource for school communities. Eastchester has begun a very prelimiary community conversation about the Framework through the DEI Task Force-- a representative group of 27 individuals who are taking a deeper dive into the Framework to understand it in more detail. The Task Force may eventually make some recommendations about any potential next steps the district might consider.
