EUFSD Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Task Force

The DEI Task Force is a representative stakeholder group of 27 people who expressed interest and were asked to begin a conversation about DEI in Eastchester Schools. The group will meet six times over the next six months to examine the New York State Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education Framework and have conversations about what next steps might make sense for Eastchester Schools to consider.

The Task Force will be digging into the four main elements of the Framework to understand how each impacts students, staff and families. One of the most important things one can do to understand the work of the Task Force is to understand that the framework is based upon these four key elements, which at their core are about high-quality teaching and learning:

1. Welcoming and Affirming Environment

2. High Expectations and Rigorous Instruction

3. Inclusive Curriculum and Assessment

4. Ongoing Professional Learning

The Task Force is scheduled to meet six times over the next six months. At the end of that time, the Task Force may have recommendations for the administration and Board of Education to consider as possible next steps. 

We view this a conversation that is best had slowly, over time, in the context of strong relationships and research-supported materials. The Task Force is merely a group coming together for an initial conversation. It remains to be seen what will come next once the Task Force concludes its six meetings.
