Sally Veltidi (2020-2021 President)
Sally joined the Board of Education in July 2016. She is currently the chair of the Community Relations Committee and the liaison to SEPTA and the Sports Club as well as to BOCES. She has been the Superintendent of Parks and Recreation, Town of Eastchester since April 2011 where she is responsible for all aspects of the Town Parks and Recreation Department including but not limited to budgeting, personnel issues, maintenance, and scheduling of all fields and parks. Sally supervises up to 15 full-time Parks, Recreation, Buildings and Grounds employees. She also organizes and oversees recreation programs for toddlers to senior citizens, special events, basketball leagues and four-day camps as well as Senior Programs and Services and the Senior Nutrition Center at Lake Isle Country Club.
Sally is a graduate of Clemson University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Parks Recreation Tourism Management. She also has her Masters of Science in Education, Recreation from Lehman College, City University of New York where she is currently an adjunct professor.
Rob Summer (2020-2021 Vice President)
Rob and his wife, Deborah, have been proud residents of Eastchester since 1996. They have four children who graduated from or attend the Eastchester schools, Breyton (EHS graduate), Lea (EHS graduate), Austin (EHS) and Julia (EHS). Rob was first elected to the Board in 2008 after volunteering for the BOE’s Finance Advisory Committee. He most recently served as the Board President for the 2017-2018 school year and has also served as the chair of the Finance, Facilities Committee and Labor Relations Committees. He has also been a member of the Audit and Community Relations Committees. He has also been the BOE liaison to the High School, Middle School, Greenvale and Waverly PTAs and the Eastchester School Foundation. Rob was re-elected in May 2017 for his 4th three-year term as a Trustee.
Rob is an attorney who is currently working for the New York State Workers’ Compensation Board as an Administrative Law Judge assigned to Brooklyn. Prior to becoming a judge, Rob was a practicing attorney for over 20 years with a background in Personal Injury and Criminal Law. He is a graduate of St. John’s School of Law (J.D. 1990) and Binghamton University (B.A. 1987). He was raised in the Bronx and attended public schools. Deborah is an Occupational Therapist who works at Schnurmacher Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing located in White Plains.
Judah Holstein (2020-21 Secretary)
Judah and his wife Jackie (EHS class of 1988) have lived in Eastchester since 1989 with their three children - two graduates of EHS (2013 and 2017), and their son who currently attends EHS.
Judah has been involved with the schools and community for many years - chaperoning trips, serving on PTA executive boards and committees, serving on the Eastchester School Foundation board and as a School Board Trustee since 2013. He also served on the Westchester East Putnam Region PTA, Westchester Putnam School Boards Association, and the Eastchester Alumni Association.
Judah is a published author, and President of Miracom Computer Corp., a small software company.
Vito Catania and his wife Chris have lived in the district for 39 years. Their son Joe, (EHS ’06) is a graduate of The University of Pennsylvania, with a degree in Systems Science and Engineering and recently completed the full-time MBA program with an MBA in Finance and Accounting at Fordham's Gabelli School of Business.
Vito is the senior member of the Board and is currently serving in his eighth three-year term as a Board Trustee. During his tenure on the board, he has served as Board President, Vice President and Secretary, each on multiple occasions. He was Chairperson of the Long Range Planning Committee for eight years and has served on the Labor Relations, Finance, and Safety Committees and is currently Board liaison to the Eastchester School Foundation.
As his son moved up through the school system, Vito was active in Waverly, Anne Hutchinson, Middle School and High School PTAs. He has also been engaged in the community, serving as a volunteer baseball coach for many years and remained involved with the Eastchester Baseball League and also volunteered as a chaperone for the EHS Varsity Baseball Spring training trip to West Virginia for ten years. He is an active member of the Parish of the Immaculate Conception and Assumption. He served as a trustee on the Tower Club of Westchester board of managers for twelve years, and is President of the Giuseppe Garibaldi Lodge, Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America as well as President of the Columbus Day Committee of Eastchester-Tuckahoe which is the umbrella group that sponsors the Columbus Day Festival held in Depot Square every September.
Vito holds a BA in Mathematics and an MBA in Finance, both from Fordham University.
David Carforo has lived in Eastchester since 1994 and has been familiar with Eastchester all his life as it is where his father Nick Carforo (Eastchester High School Class of 1946) was raised and where he operated a landscaping business. Dave has two daughters, both Eastchester High School graduates.
Dave has served as a trustee on the Board of Education since 2009, was Secretary in 2012, and Board President in 2013. He is currently a member of the Audit, Facilities and Education Committees. He has previously served on the Finance and the Community Relations Committees as well.
Dave is a real estate professional and has specialized in portfolio management and the development of rental housing since 1986. Originally from the Bronx, he graduated from Manhattan College and has earned advanced degrees from Bowling Green State University and New York University.
Tara was elected as a Board of Education Trustee in 2018 and is proud to serve the students in the community. She and her family moved to the community in 2016 due to the stellar reputation of the schools. Tara’s son is a proud second grade student in Greenvale School where he is thriving academically and socially. He is a graduate of Waverly School.
She is currently employed by the City of Yonkers Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation for almost 17 years as a Recreation Supervisor. Her position entails overseeing all aspects of staffing, funding, grant writing and programming for the special needs population. Tara was recognized in 2017 at the annual camp health inspection conference where the camp she oversees, Camp Pride, received accolades for flawless inspections and exceptional care given to their campers. She also works with the Police Benevolent Association and Police Athletic League in their Annual Summer Barbeque and Holiday Party for the Developmentally Disabled.
Prior to being elected, Tara served on the Waverly PTA on the Wellness Committee and was a member of The Town of Eastchester Community Relations Committee. She served as the Waverly School BOE Liaison. She was a member of the Community Relations, Audit and Board Policies Committees. Currently, she is the BOE Liaison for Anne Hutchinson School. She is also the Chair of Board Policies and is a member of the Community Relations and Education Committees.
Tara is a graduate of Purchase College with a degree in Literature with a Concentration in Drama Studies. She also has Master’ Level Credits in Education from New York University.
Tara is an advocate for all students and has a special interest in special education and food allergy awareness.
She loves being an attendee in her free time at her son’s baseball games where her dad, Grandpa Neil assists. You may also see her with her family walking their friendly six-pound dog, Mr. Soft. If you see them, please say hello! Tara is honored to serve our children in the beautiful Town of Eastchester.
Erin worked successfully with fellow members of the Board of Education to pass the Transportation Referendum and to select and hire our new Superintendent Dr. Robert Glass during her first year. As she begins a second year, Erin will work with veteran board members on the Facilities and Safety Committee and the Labor Relations Committee. She will act as the BOE liaison to the Greenvale School PTA as well as the board’s liaison for the Westchester Putnam School Board Association Legislative Advocacy Committee.
Erin and her husband Dennis moved to Eastchester eleven years ago and presently have four children in three schools in the district, one at Eastchester High School, two at Eastchester Middle School and their youngest at Greenvale. Erin volunteers as a coach for the Blue Devils girls’ lacrosse team and can be found at many fields or gyms throughout the year cheering her kids on in soccer, basketball and lacrosse. She is also an active member of the IHM parish and has taught CCD for the past five years.
Before joining the Board of Education, Erin worked on the Cultural Arts Committee for the Waverly PTA, the fifth-grade committee for the Greenvale PTA and as the Co-president of the Greenvale PTA.
Erin is currently a full-time mom but her background is in education and law. After graduating from Villanova University (BA 1996) Erin was an AmeriCorps teaching fellow in Philadelphia earning a Master’s in Education at St. Joseph’s University (MEd 1998) and a law degree from Temple University Beasley School of Law (JD 2003).
Steve Projansky and his family moved to Eastchester to join this amazing community. His children attend Eastchester High School and Waverly.
Steve was first elected to the School Board in 2016, and has served as a trustee, secretary, chaired the Technology Committee, and currently contributes to the Education Committee, Policy Committee, and Technology Committee. Steve has also been the Board liaison to Anne Hutchinson and Waverly PTAs.
Coming from a family of educators, Steve has a passion for learning. He believes each student deserves the best education possible, and that we should leverage the best programs and resources available to efficiently and sustainably achieve this goal.
Steve is a pharmaceutical executive and passionate patient advocate who is proud to work in a field that allows him to help patients, providers, and caregivers. Steve is a graduate of Cornell University.
Dr. Cheryl Smith
Cheryl Smth was appointed to the School Board in February 2016 to fill an open seat after the resignation of a Trustee and was elected to a full term later that year. She served as the Vice President during the 2018-2019 school year and was appointed President of the Board of Education in July of 2019. During her tenure on the Board, she has served on the Education Committee (chair), Superintendent Search Group, Facilities Committee, Labor Committee, Community Relations Committee, and as Liaison to the Greenvale PTA. Before joining the Board, Cheryl was active in both the Waverly and Greenvale PTAs, serving as PTA council rep at Waverly and cultural arts chair at Greenvale.
Cheryl is an associate professor of English at Baruch College, CUNY. She teaches courses in world literature, early American literature, first-year writing, digital writing, and creative non-fiction writing. She sits on the CUNY Faculty Affairs Advisory Board and was appointed Co-chair of the Baruch Self-study for re-accreditation. She also serves as faculty liaison for the Center for Teaching and Learning at Baruch, where she helps design and run seminars for faculty on a wide variety of topics, including online teaching, grading and assessment, assignment design, classroom management, writing instruction, and research on teaching and learning. Her current book project, Poetic Justice: Protest, Literacy, and Democracy in the Future of Higher Education, looks at the history of writing instruction during open admissions at CUNY.
Cheryl and her family moved to Eastchester in 2009, drawn by the strong community and excellence of the town’s schools. Her son is in sixth grade at Eastchester Middle School, where his favorite subject is science. He is a musician in band and jazz band and he enjoys scouting, rock climbing, and film making. Cheryl’s husband, Andres, was born and raised in the Bronx and works for the MTA.
