  • Will the Eastchester School District provide routine COVID-19 testing to students and staff?

    Posted by:

    The Eastchester School District is not in a position to be able to provide testing to students and staff.  We will work closely with the WCDOH and provide information about where parents and staff can obtain a COVID-19 test.  There is a link to a listing where testing in our community is available and a search by area document located in the health section of our Re-Entry plan under COVID-19 testings.

  • Will all students suspected of COVID be tested? Will quarantine begin immediate & end if negative ?

    Posted by:

    Any child who is suspected of having COVID-19 will be sent home and it will be communicated to the parent/guardian to contact the student’s healthcare provider to request testing.  If the student is tested, it may take up to 2 to 7 days to get the results.  The WCDOH have indicated they will initiate contact tracing and recommend quarantine when they have a confirmed lab result of a positive COVID-19 case.  So there may be a lag with the onset of symptoms and the quarantine of individuals who came in close physical contact with the confirmed case of COVID-19.

  • Will students and staff be required to take their temperature each day before school?

    Posted by:

    A remote health questionnaire will be provided to faculty, staff, and students (families) prior to the start of the school day.   The screening questionnaire determines whether the individual has:

    • knowingly been in close contact in the past 14 days with anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19, or who has or had symptoms of COVID-19;
    • Actually tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 14 days;
    • has experienced any symptoms of COVID-19, including a temperature of greater than 100.0 degrees fahrenheit in the past 14 days;
    •  traveled internationally or from a state on the New York State Travel Advisory in the past 14 days

    We will be sending reminders to staff and families to complete the Health Screening Questionnaire prior to the start of school daily. For those who do not complete the form as required, the District will follow up with each individual and administer a temperature check.  We are still looking into particular details by building, which will be finalized prior to the start of the school year.

  • If there is a case identified among students and staff, will you be closing school immediately?

    Posted by:

    Not necessarily, we would contact the WDDOH to review the circumstances and they would identify individuals who may require a 14 day quarantine period.  There may be instances where the District would have to close the school due to the number of individuals that might require quarantine.

  • Have the health criteria for students who attend in person instruction been updated?

    Posted by:

    Parents are now required to answer a health screening questionnaire prior to attending school.  If a student or parent answers Yes to the question “has symptoms of COVID-19 which can include a runny nose or cough, in the past 14 days, they should keep their child home and call the school nurse.

    If students come to school with any of these symptoms, there is a process in place where teachers can send students to the health office for evaluation.  After a student is evaluated, the school nurse in consultation with the parent/guardian and potentially the District Medical Director will determine whether the student should be treated at school or sent back to class or sent home with a recommendation to get tested for COVID-19.

  • How will children go to the health office for injuries and routine medications?

    Health office procedures are outlined in the health section of the re-entry plan with a map that shows the process. Basically, students with routine illnesses such as injury or medication administration will be separated from those students who are ill.

  • How and when will all families be notified given a COVID-19 exposure?

    Posted by:

    If the District is contacted of a confirmed case of COVID-19 by either the WCDOH or a family, that individual will already be required to be on home isolation and anyone in their home will most likely be required to be on quarantine. The District will work with the DOH to assist in Contact Tracing.   We will subsequently notify individuals by email blast or phone call depending on the situation.   Remember, there may be a lag in symptoms and COVID-19 diagnosis, so parents should continue to monitor their children for signs and symptoms of illness on a daily basis while they are in school.  Additionally, we are counting on parents to keep their children home when they are ill, so that no symptomatic students come to school sick.

  • What kind of mask is required?

    Posted by:

    Any cloth face covering or mask which covers the nose and mouth.

  • What will mask breaks look like? How long?

    Posted by:

    Mask breaks will look differently depending on the place, the age of the student and disability status. Each room will have a designated mask break area. In classrooms, a designated, marked, socially distanced area area will be provided for students to use to remove their mask for a brief period of time. If no space is available in the classroom, students will take a mask break in the hallway just outside the classroom door. Mask break areas will be provided on playgrounds within each designated cohort zone.

  • Will social distancing take place in the hallways?

    Posted by:

    Social distancing will take place in all areas of the school to the extent possible.

  • How will you enforce wearing masks?

    Posted by:

    Teachers will work with students to help them wear a mask and take breaks as needed.  Students with disabilities will have more difficulty wearing and keeping masks on.  There will be a learning process for all students. We will enlist the help of parents/guardians early so we can partner in this important effort in the interest of community health.

    If a student willfully refuses or or repeatedly fails to wear a mask, disciplinary measures can and will be taken per our district's Code of Student Conduct.
