A Message from Dr. Villanueva: A Happy Return to School

A Message from Dr. Villanueva: A Happy Return to School

Dear Eastchester Faculty, Families and Community,

I hope you all had a great Labor Day weekend! As we gear up for the second week of school, I’d like to thank all of our families, faculty, and students for moving with the flow of our updated arrival and dismissal patterns. Over the course of the first few days of school, our student drop-off and pick-up moved faster and smoother!

And, thank you to our families who’ve shared feedback and suggestions - we are continuing to closely monitor each of our school campuses, and the district, EPD, and Town are committed to making tweaks and adjustments to the best of our ability as school progresses.

We are happy to share the first few stories of the year below about opening week events.

Here’s to a productive and energizing second week of school, Eastchester!

Dr. V

Welcome!

We are happy to welcome Ms. Alise Olivo to Waverly and Ms. Dayna Orlando to Anne Hutch as Assistant and Interim Assistant Principals, respectively.

Ms. Olivo comes to Eastchester after 15 years in the New York Department of Education. She brings with her a wealth of educational experience that includes extensive work in Special Education.

Ms. Orlando, a familiar face at Anne Hutchinson, has experience aligning instruction with district goals, making her a valuable addition to the Eastchester’s leadership team this year. We are delighted to welcome both Ms. Olivo and Ms. Orlando to the Eastchester administrative team!

As always, we remain committed to our overarching mission as educators - Four Campuses, Four Pillars, One Vision: Elevate Eastchester!

A Friendly Reminder About the Early/Late Pilot

We are happy to see families utilizing the Pilot: Early and Late drop off! Here are a few reminders!

1. Early Drop Off & Late Pick Up Pilot is 25 minutes in length and supervised by school personnel. If a family needs more than 25 minutes, they should use RIGHT AT SCHOOL, which is a paid childcare service that begins as early as 7AM.

  • 7:45AM - 8:10AM (AH and GV - main entrance front of building)
  • 8:20AM - 8:35AM (Waverly - Main pergola entrance)

2. Parents that arrive ANYTIME between the 25 minutes of Early Drop Off can 'drop and go'. Example: If a parent arrives at 8:29AM, they can drop at the main front door and go.

3. Regular Drop off begins:

  • 8:00AM and School Starts at 8:10AM (AH and GV)
  • 8:35AM and School Starts at 8:45AM (Waverly)

IF parents/students DO NOT need to get to school early, they can arrive anytime between 8-8:10 AM (AH and GV) and 8:35-8:45 AM (Waverly) to ensure that children are on time for school.

4. The Early/Late Pilot is meant to be periodic in response to feedback from our families - However, if a family needs to use Early/Late Drop off for up to 25 minutes daily, they can. We are collecting data on how many families need this provision during the pilot to help us determine how to move forward at the end of the pilot.

5. There are many families who continue to use Right At School who require more than 25 minutes at the start and end of day.  Our RAS partners continue to be available to support any family interested in enrolling!
