Eastchester High School Students Achieve During Challenging Times
No one can deny that this year brought unprecedented challenges to students in the Eastchester Union Free School District. Eastchester High School students continued to strive for excellence and the induction of many juniors and seniors into the many academic honor societies in the District is a testament to their perseverance.
“The entire administration commends all of the students nominated and accepted into these organizations. The inductees have demonstrated a commitment to service and academics and are role models for their peers.”
Here is a brief synopsis of the ceremonies that have occurred throughout the 2020-2021 school year.
National Honor Society – EHS Douglas MacDonald Chapter - Advisors: Janice Crisci and Brianne Hickey
The National Honor Society is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than “honor roll", NHS recognizes seniors who have demonstrated excellence in the four pillars of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. NHS members uphold these qualities, which have been associated with membership since the organization’s inception in 1921.
On December 9th, The Class of 2021 NHS Officers created and implemented a virtual ceremony to induct new members into the EHS Douglas MacDonald Chapter. EHS Principal Dr. Jeffrey Capuano delivered opening remarks followed by a guest speaker. The 52 inductees dressed their best, which further enhanced the ceremony. This year, the chapter collectively tutored several hundred hours in service to the student body.
Lambda Alpha Beta Gamma - Beta Chapter – Advisors: Amy Schlamkowitz and Lauren Stipo
Lambda Alpha Beta Gamma is the Business Honor Society at Eastchester High School. Students who have been inducted into the organization have taken at least three high school credits of business courses, have shown academic excellence and exhibited upstanding character, high ethics, morals and integrity. There are four ideals that are practiced and embedded through Lambda Alpha Beta Gamma: truth, scholarship, leadership and cooperation.
On May 20th, EHS inducted nine new students into the chapter during a virtual ceremony.
French Honor Society – Advisor: Laura Marcoccia
On May 7th, 11 new members were inducted into the French Honor Society during a virtual celebration. Each of these students demonstrated an innate ability in their capacity to learn and master all aspects of the French language. Throughout the course of their studies at Eastchester High School, they have deepened their knowledge of the French language and culture and have proven to be dedicated and more importantly, interested in the pursuit of their mastery.
Officers made presentations during the ceremony and the new inductees took the national French honor society oath. The ceremony concluded with the honor society quote “L’homme qui sait deux langues en vaut deux!”, which means "The man who knows two languages is worth two men".
