Eastchester Community Shows up for Polar Plunge

A host of Eastchester community members braved the chilly water at Rye Beach on Saturday morning, as Team Eastchester participated in its third annual Polar Plunge event.

The Westchester Polar Plunge, held on Nov. 11, saw people and groups from all over the area take an icy dip for a good cause, raising money for the Special Olympics in the process.

Money raised by Team Eastchester—to date, the Eagles’ efforts have resulted in over $16,000 of contributions—will be split evenly between the Special Olympics and Eastchester SEPTA, helping to support the Eastchester organization’s programs.

Eastchester School Board President Matt Fanelli was on hand for the event with his family and lauded the Eastchester community for its enthusiasm and support which has grown each year since 2021.

“There are not enough great things to say about the Polar Plunge, the turnout, and the energy for that event,” said Fanelli at the Board of Education Meeting on Nov. 14. “Every year it gets bigger and better.”
