Board of Education Announces Coffee and Conversations

Later this month, members of the Board of Education will sit down with community members to discuss our schools, our children, and the future of education in Eastchester.

On Nov. 18 and Nov. 25, BOE trustees will host two Coffee and Conversations events in order to solicit feedback from families of our K-12 learners and gather insight into potential areas of improvement for the district.

BOE President Christine Civitano-Lombardi said that she was eager for this year’s iteration of the annual event, noting that the format of the event allows for meaningful interaction between the stakeholders of the Eastchester community.

“These events help us and administrators get our finger on the pulse of the community; as board members, we don’t really have the opportunity to engage in a dialogue with the public at a board meeting, so this gives us a chance to do that,” said Civitano-Lombardi. “This is an easy, informal environment that is fluid, organic, and allows people to organize their thoughts and engage in a more direct way.”

The EUFSD Board of Education first began hosting Coffee and Conversations events in 2022 and the meetings have since become popular venues to discuss some of the more granular details of the district’s educational offerings at each of the school’s buildings.

This year, there will be two events—one for parents of elementary students and another for parents of students in the middle and high school.

“I really have to give credit to [former BOE President and current Trustee] Chrissy Geagan for starting this endeavor,” said Civitano-Lombardi. “And one of the reasons we wanted to combine the meetings is it allows more board members to appear, and that board involvement leads to a greater sense of consistency.

“Many times, parents of elementary school students will have similar comments regardless of the school,” she added. “And combining the middle and high school events made sense because I think it helps to give the middle school parents a little more insight into what they may see once their children move on to high school.”

The Nov. 18 meeting for parents and guardians of elementary school students will take place at 7:00 p.m. in the EHS Digital Lab. The families of EHS and EMS students will take place in the Digital Lab at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 25.
