The Eastchester Union Free School District recognizes four Eastchester High School seniors named by The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) as National Merit Semifinalists. Michael Fang, Wesley Miller, Kyoko Saito and Kanta Sakabe are among 16,000 students across the country who achieved this distinction.
“We are proud of Michael, Wesley, Kyoko, and Kanta for being named as semifinalists in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Competition. This award recognizes that our students are in the top 1% of all students nationally in the Class of 2021,” said EHS Principal Dr. Jeffrey Capuano.
The seniors will now compete for 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $30 million dollars.
To become a finalist, the students must submit a scholarship application, which includes their academic record and detailed information about their participation in extracurricular activities, community activities and demonstrated leadership abilities.
National Merit Scholarship winners will be announced between April and July, 2021.
Scholarships are underwritten by the NMSC and 400 business organizations and higher education institutions devoted to the pursuit of academic excellence.
